Using Litmus Paper
Before starting make sure your liquid is in a sterile cup or container. Both Red and Blue litmus paper may be used for testing.
1. The first way to test is to take either the red or the blue litmus paper strip and dip one end of it into the substance. remove it immediately and it and it may change color. You may then test the litmus paper that was not tested by doing the same to see if it changes color. One of them should change color unless it is neutral. 2, Another way is to take a pipette and dot a few droplettes on both a blue and red litmus paper to see which changes color, if it changes color then it is either an acid or a base. If it is neutral, it will not change color. Remember!!

Using ph strips
In order to test to see if a liquid substance is acidic, basic, or neutral, you may also use the pH test strips.
1. Make sure your liquid is in a sterile cup or container before you start testing.
2. Insert one end of the pH strip and into the liquid substance being tested for two seconds.
3. Remove the pH strip from the liquid and lay it down on a flat clean surface in order to allow it to change colors. (May take minutes to change)
4. Once there has been a color change, observe the change in the strip and compare its color on the pH chart. The number of the color the strip matches represents its pH level.
